ARUN NAGDEV, MD

Ultrasound Program Director

Dr. Arun Nagdev is currently the Director of Emergency Ultrasound in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California and an Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF. He is the editor of highlandultrasound.com

He has lectured at American College of Emergency Physicians(ACEP), the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), American Society of Regional Anesthesia (ASRA) and various national and international conferences. Along with winning numerous faculty teaching awards and national research awards, Arun has more than 100 peer reviewed publications. He was the past President of the POCUS section of  the ACEP,  American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) point-of-care ultrasound section and has been a column writer for ACEP Now (national emergency medicine magazine) for more than a decade. 

JUDY LIN, MD

Dr. Judy Lin is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University and the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Director and Institutional GME Ultrasound Director at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, TX. She is passionate about teaching regional anesthesia and has organized regional anesthesia workshops both in New York and Texas which have taught hundreds of medical students, residents, attendings and APPs. She is an avid builder of high fidelity meat models for practicing nerve blocks and obsesses frequently over meat glue and buying the best cut of meat for her models. Dr. Lin also participates nationally as an annual lecturer at ACEP’s regional anesthesia workshop. She also was a writing committee contributor for the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Imaging Criteria and served as section editor of the PEER review FPD Ultrasound question bank. 

ANDREW GOLDSMITH, MD

Ultrasound Division Director

Brigham and Women’s Hospital - Boson, MA

Dr. Andrew Goldsmith is the current Chief of Emergency Ultrasound of Brigham and Women’s and soon to be Vice Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He is currently an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.

He has lectured at American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the Society of Academic Emergency Physicians, the Society for Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF) as well as the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) as well as numerous international and national conferences. Dr. Goldsmith is an avid researcher with over 50 peer-reviewed publications with both state and federal funding. Further, Dr. Goldsmith was a senior editor for the EMRA book on ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and a principal author in the new ACEP guidelines on ultrasound-guided nerve blocks in the ED. 

DAN MIRSCH, DO

Director of Student US Educ & POCUS Research

Dan holds the position of director of Student Ultrasound Education, POCUS Research, VA of WNY POCUS, and the US Guided Procedures Program in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, NY. In these roles, he teaches regional anesthesia techniques to attendings, APPs, students, and residents while creating block protocols at Buffalo General Medical Center and Erie County Medical Center. Dr. Mirsch also serves the American College of Emergency Physicians as the Chair of the Safety Subcommittee of the Ultrasound Section bringing high standards of safety and excellence to the organization.

ROB FARROW, DO

Program Director - AEMUS Fellowship

Rob Farrow, DO is an Associate Professor at Florida International University and the Program Director of the AEMUS Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL. With a passionate focus on POCUS use and regional analgesia techniques in emergency medicine, he has significantly contributed to the field through his roles as a content editor for PEER Review / AEMUS-FPD Review, a frequent faculty member for the Resuscitative TEE Workshop, and a dedicated contributor to CoreUltrasound / 5 Min Sono. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and he is a sought-after lecturer on regional analgesia both nationally and regionally. Beyond his professional achievements, Rob enjoys spending quality time with his family, exploring the outdoors through biking and hiking, and relishing the scenic beaches and ocean of Miami.

JOSEPH BROWN, MD

Joseph Brown, MD is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Physician and core member of the Ultrasound Group at the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Campus.  After completing his residency at University of California in San Diego, he completed his Ultrasound Fellowship at University of California in San Francisco.  He then stayed on as academic faculty at UCSF-Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he was also the Airway Director.  Following this, he was the Director of Faculty Education at Medical College of Wisconsin before he and his family moved to Denver, where he joined the faculty at University of Colorado.  There, he has been instrumental in creating their ultrasound guided nerve block program, establishing protocols for blocks and running the advanced ultrasound rotation for the Denver Health Residency.  In addition to his passion for residency education, he has been a regular lecturer on the national level at the ACEP nerve block workshop, lectured at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) as well as served as the the director for both the SAEM nerve block and fiberoptic intubation workshops.  Finally, he was the primary author of ACEP’s Policy Statement on Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks.  Despite his time spent in the academic arena, he is passionate about establishing research and protocols to facilitate the use of nerve blocks in community Emergency Departments around the world.

TOMISLAV JELIC, MD

Acute Care US Fellowship Director

Tom is an assistant professor of emergency medicine and the acute care ultrasound fellowship director at the University of Manitoba. He is a transport physician with STARS air ambulance and leads the pre-hospital ultrasound program at STARS. When not blocking patients in the back of a helicopter, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and tinkering with cars.

Nicole DugGan, MD

Director of Emergency Ultrasound Research

Dr. Nicole Duggan is currently the Director of Emergency Ultrasound Research and EM faculty at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. She is a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. 

Dr. Duggan teaches and lectures on POCUS-guided procedures worldwide with special love for POCUS-guided nerve blocks. She has been recognized by multiple national organizations for her research in artificial intelligence for POCUS, thoracic ultrasound, and procedural POCUS including the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Society for Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF). She has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to multiple educational textbooks and curricula on POCUS and POCUS-guided procedures.

Katherine Vlasica, MD

St. Joseph’s Health

Dr. Katherine Vlasica is the Acute Pain Management Fellowship Director and Medical Director of EM Pain Management at St. Joseph’s Health. As Core Faculty at the EM residency, she spends her time teaching medical students, residents, and attending physicians ultrasound-guided regional techniques through interdisciplinary SIM labs, asynchronous curriculums, national and international lectures, and monthly trips to her local butcher seeking strange cuts of meat. She has authored numerous pain management publications, contributed to 5min Sono and Corependium, and is the current Chair of ACEP’s Pain and Addiction Care in the ED. When not blocking patients in the ED, Kat enjoys travel, reading, and spending time with her family.
